The heart is the oldest symbol in jewelry — and the most dangerous, because it is so easy to do badly. Our Xin Rui Series Heart Enamel Stud Earrings do it right: a heart that is not sweet, not sentimental, not obvious. A heart with an edge.

The form is a classic heart silhouette, approximately 1cm, but the surface is where the design lives. The outer border is a smooth, saturated band of drip enamel — approximately 2mm wide, running along the entire perimeter of the heart like a frame — in either deep forest green (the color of old library walls and velvet curtains) or deep burgundy (the color of a glass of wine held up to candlelight). The enamel is glossy and smooth, its color deep and saturated, with the slight translucency that only drip enamel achieves.

Inside that border, the interior of the heart is filled with a three-dimensional sculptural texture in high-polish vintage rose gold: a flowing, organic relief of curves and ridges that suggests cream being piped, or clouds seen from above, or the surface of water just after something has moved through it. The texture is three-dimensional — you can see the depth of the relief, the way the gold catches light on the peaks and holds shadow in the valleys.

The contrast between the smooth, deep enamel border and the rich, textured gold interior is the whole design. It is a heart that rewards looking at closely.
